Greetings NBSC Members,
For the past month I have been in negotiations with Brevard County Parks and Recreations
concerning our New Lease. I am pleased to say that I did sign a new lease for 2023-2025.
However, there are some changes that I could not fight against. I assume most of you know that
we do not own the building. Hence the need for a Lease. The following are the changes we
face:
1. The rent has been increased to $105 a month. Up by $5.
2. Due to increased rent for County Parks and Recreations offices throughout North Brevard,
the County P&R will be consolidating multiple satellite offices INTO our building. They will be
occupying the Game Room through to the Silver Room. We will be losing the game room, silver
room, the two restrooms, silver room storage, hallway closets etc. Construction of a wall
between the Gold and Silver Rooms will commence 01 Aug 2023.
3. As a compensation, the County has agreed to pay all power bills for the Center. That is a
savings to NBSC of over $1200 a month.
4. The County has used it's other facilities to give a venue to ALL the rentals we have scheduled
for the Silver room FREE OF CHARGE. The Rental Customers will be able to hold their events
at no cost to them. They all have responded favorably.
Now, I know there will be some discomfort in shifting activities involved and I ask to please
have patience and understanding that your BOD is doing everything possible to make this as
seamless as possible. Our Operations Manager, Linda Trawle, is shouldering a monumental
load of work and organizing to ensure this. She will be aided by her Assistant, Paulette Amaral
in this endeavor. Please understand that they need not just my and the BOD support in this.
They also need yours. Feel free to pop in to give an encouraging word of support these next few
months. I feel the positive input will boost their morale in this challenging task. I have complete
faith that they will both pull us through.
As your President, all my effort goes into keeping the NBSC running so we can continue to
offer the social support you deserve. While some matters, such as this, are out of my control I
will do my best to keep disruption to a minimum. Also, I would like to take this opportunity to
address my Serving in Office. I feel that I have been remiss in certain duties to which I feel you
deserve. That mostly being my communications to you, the membership. My 60Hr/Week
employment and private Business do not leave me as much time as I need. There are times that
I feel I have bitten off more that I can chew. It is only the loving support from my Executive
committee, BOD and Close advisor that I keep going. I sincerely hope all of you feel that the
NBSC is all that you expect. I will do my best to ensure it.
Respectfully,
Robert D. Williams
