First, while we're aiming for the Center to re-open on May 4, it will depend on what Gov. DeSantis and Parks & Rec mandate.
While the Center is closed, I took the opportunity to sit down with Debra and tentatively schedule a number of events that we've mentioned at Board meetings earlier this year, plus a surprise or two that she's worked on (Bobby Sox Bingo & the writers events). It is understood that the dates of the events may slip. (The list is posted on our Activities page)
Of course, we know that the "new normal" will involve social distancing for everything we do, but it's imperative that we get busy scheduling. People want to resume having a social life and the Center needs to make money to pay our bills.
Debra also has talked with Marsha Clayton, and Marsha is considering returning to run the Dinner & A Movie activity. She was doing a great job and am confident that, if she returns, it will be a quality activity. This also was a popular activity, and I'm hoping she says yes.
For those of you who don't know, Yvette Kling is returning to teach her Line Dance classes and will be doing it on Mondays in the Silver Room. She has quite a few dancers. She's not sure if she wants to undertake doing a monthly Line Dance Social again but may want to when things are more stable and social distancing relaxes a bit.
Debra has worked hard with her son Dale to generate special Bingo cards featuring titles of well known 50s and 60s music. We're going to have a game event to play this fun Bingo as well as Name That Tune.
She also queried the Space Coast Writers Guild (?) and volunteered to schedule authors to talk about their works. She, as a published author, also has volunteered to run a 5-session class, "Fiction Writing for Newbies".
